No ATi fan boy will ever admit it, though. That AA is just so pretty. It makes old games look good. Is that an earring clasp I see? Doom 3 will be so gorgeous. I am still waiting for that ATi 3DS max plugin though. My mommy always buys my clothes too big, so that I can grow into them. My only bug is with T2 and AA. Any amout of AA and it makes the menus all black except for a small area around your mouse. Also there is no AA for 16 bit games. So far its one very nice card.
Wumpus, over at B3D they have a guy that works on the driver team for the He was asked about forcing higher colors and gave a few reasons why. I can not reach B3D other wise I would linky.

Can we do that yet? Excellent review Damage. I appreciate the hard work. I just bought a a little over a week ago, and so far i have had no problems with, and the Image Quality is outstanding.
It cost a lot, but for once, i wanted to be on the cutting edge, and for at least a short time, i will have a kick ass rig. I almost sprung for the Parahelia when it came out, because i value image quality more then speed, but i am glad i waited.
I can see the retaining a lot of its value for a long time. So, Forge, do you just buy the latest video card just for the hell of it deep pockets, bragging rights or is there some game or program that you run that actually needs that much power?
Other than better FSAA and anisotropic filtering scores, is there any other reason to buy this thing? Doom 3? This card will be collecting dust by the time that game ships. The Radeon , as impressive as it is, is not necessary at this point in time. When I upgraded my computer a couple of months ago, I just bought myself a GeForce3 Ti video card on clearance at an excellent price to hold me over until the DirectX 9 cards are all out in full force and when software starts to hint at actually benefiting from DirectX 9 cards in terms of either features or beneficial performance gains.
A jump from 30 to 50 would be. Buggy drivers, core stepping issues - bah who wants that? Nice review though. Sadly the facts are very different. Dammit my ti is lame now. I understand framerates vs. I can try getting screenshots if you have some really good candidates. Yes, the new Trident chip will indeed blow everything out of the water, especially the parahelia! Type search above and then hit Enter.
Our testing methods As ever, we did our best to deliver clean benchmark numbers. Tests were run at least twice, and the results were averaged.
Our test systems were configured like so: Processor Intel Pentium 4 2. As always, these numbers can lie. The key ones, like memory bandwidth and fill rate, are theoretical peaks, not real-world numbers. Real-world performance will vary depending on implementations. Occlusion detection Real application performance is determined by more than just raw fill rate, however. All of these techniques have to do with the Z buffer, which stores depth information about each pixel in a scene.
The HyperZ bag of tricks includes lossless Z buffer compression, fast clearing of the Z buffer, and a pair of occlusion detection methods, dubbed Hierarchical Z and Early Z.
The Radeon Pro shows its mettle here, clearly outrunning the other cards. Reasonably complex pixel shader programs can make the VPU the primary limiting factor in performance, and a good pixel shader implementation can be several times faster at a given task than a competing one.
A block diagram of a Radeon vertex shader unit. Comanche 4 Comanche 4 is a true DirectX 8-class game with vertex and pixel shader support. Unreal Tournament The UT demo is a late addition to this review. Epic released it right as we were finishing up, and we decided to include test results, because UT uses more advanced DX8 graphics features, more polygon detail, and larger textures than most current games. Also, we used just-released, brand-spanking-new video drivers for the UT tests—version 7.
Antialiasing Antialiased text. Gamma-correct blending maintains smooth gradients. Texture antialiasing ATI has cleaned up some of the texture filtering quirks from the Radeon , as well. The image quality is second to none, especially with antialiasing enabled. Comments closed. Anonymous 19 years ago Got a rotation tab in your driver? Regards Bjarne Andersen, bjarne myrealbox. Windows 7 Installation, Setup, and Deployment. Sign in to vote. Impressed at the performance on an old system res x , i wanted to see how it dealt with Aero. So I opened device manager, right-clicked the display devices and then "update driver" for my graphics card Mobility Radeon mb. I then chose to let windows search the internet for this card.
Time for a restart. I searched the forums for solutions to this problem, and most people seemed to fix this by hitting F8 after reboot and chosing to load windows i VGA-mode x. This did not work for me, however i managed to get windows running in safe mode. No problems running safe-mode in x res either. So, I thought the problem was the driver, and sure enough, removing the device from device manager helped and Windows 7 once again started in normal mode with a generic VGA driver.
My question is: does anyone know where I can find a driver for this card that actually works? Saturday, January 31, PM. Lawrence Garvin, M. Friday, February 6, PM. Friday, May 22, PM. Strange reports. I have the same Mobility Radeon , and Win7 installed the driver 8. In any case, it can be found at catalog. ATI driver? The 8. Saturday, May 23, AM. Sanmartin: From catalog. How could it be installed?
I have tried several version of catalyst drivers but I can't make my mobility radeon work properly on Windows Do someone have some suggestions?
Thank you. Saturday, May 30, PM. I don't know what that means. Yes, and I got "wrong OS" and exit during the first part of the installation. I'll take a look at the driver. I don't know how to do that. Maybe someone else can you give you a better answer. I am actually using my Windows 7 system in multiboot dualboot with XP, so I can always go back. I'd just like to move on with Windows 7, but I guess I'll have to change my mobo, cards and memory OK, Thanx.
Will check that out. Cheerz, Geoff. It is like it disappeared off the internet. All links to support. They tell you to go to your laptop manufacturer and has all their logo links at the bottom. Thanks, Imua. Imuaokalani , Jul 30, Hello All, Like everybody who has posted here, I installed Windows 7 32bit onto my Dell Inspiron which features a Mobility Radeon video card.
And like everybody here, Windows 7 installed a generic VGA driver which was limited to a x resolution, with no Aero support. I tried modding the ATI Catalyst drivers with no success. I then tried manually installing the driver's inf file like was suggested in a previous post.
This only worked so far as to allow me to have a x resolution, but I had no Aero or 3D hardware support with this option. I am happy to announce to everybody reading this post that I have finally found a solution which works! Go into the hardware device listing in Windows 7, select the current video card and manually update the driver.
At this point you choose the driver options which are on the Windows 7 DVD. You'll initially get a message saying that Windows 7 cannot guarantee the performance or compatibility of the driver, blah, blah, blah.
Just install it anyway and reboot when it is done. Doing this, the first thing you'll notice is the resolution should be correct. In my case, it was at x But at this point I still didn't have Aero working.
To correct this, I simply ran the Windows Performance Index test. Once the test was complete, I saw right away that Aero was working properly! Windows 7 gave me a Aero performance score of 3. Not bad considering this laptop is almost 6 years old! I hope this helps in getting your Mobility Radeon card working properly in Windows 7.
